John 6:1–14
There were thousands of hungry people and practically no food.
Jesus looked at Philip and asked, “Where are we to buy bread, so that these people may eat?” John immediately lets us in on something Philip didn’t know:
Jesus already knew what He was going to do.
I love that.
Philip starts calculating. Two hundred denarii worth of bread wouldn’t be enough. The numbers didn’t work. The problem was too big.
Then Andrew found a boy carrying five barley loaves and two fish. Andrew knew it wasn’t enough either, but he brought what they had to Jesus.
And that’s when everything changed.
Jesus didn’t ask them to produce enough. He asked them to bring Him what was available. Five loaves and two fish couldn’t feed thousands in their hands. But once placed in the hands of Jesus, there was enough for everyone—with twelve baskets left over.
Maybe you’ve been looking at something in your life thinking, “I don’t have enough.” Not enough ability. Not enough money. Not enough time. Not enough experience. Not enough faith.
Maybe Jesus isn’t asking whether you have enough.
Maybe He’s asking whether you’re willing to put what you do have in His hands.
Because the same Jesus who already knew what He was going to do before Philip ever started calculating is still Jesus today.
Today’s thought: What am I calling “not enough” that I simply need to place in the hands of Jesus?
